Of course we are getting both nervous and excited with each day. We’re sure that everyone is a buzz with questions like, “What do I wear?”, “What will the weather be like?”, “Will those crazy kids make me hike 47 miles with a 30lb backpack and carry my own water?”. For the latter question, rest assured the answer is “no”, but there will be other expectations of our guests….. What to Wear.Well, it is California, but the caveat is that it is Northern California, and Monterey can vary from 70ºF and sunny to foggy, windy and 50ºF, all in the same day. We recommend at least one pair of shorts for daytime fun, but the evenings will be jeans/khaki weather with a sweater/sweatshirt. For the BBQ, this of course will be outdoors and will be casual, so comfy jeans and sweater, maybe even a light jacket, will be the norm. On Sunday the ceremony will be on the beach, again the weather can be unpredictable, so girls, consider a summer dress or pants suit, with the option of a wrap or sweater. Guys, jackets or suits sound good, basically whatever makes you comfortable. Heck, you could even come naked if you like, just give us some warning…. And, being that it is on the beach, we would recommend that you do not bring your favorite shoes, in fact shoes are optional for all on the beach. The reception will then be indoors, so weather is not so much of a consideration later in the day. Check out this link for a 10 day forecast of weather in the area! Will those crazy kids make me hike 47 miles with a 30lb backpack and carry my own water? No, but…. We do have some activities planned for Saturday, with the goals being: 1) to bring everyone together, 2) meet and bond with people to whom you will shortly be related, 3) explore and experience the beauty and attractions of the Monterey area. The ceremony/reception will be Sunday afternoon May 16th. The ceremony will take place on the Asilomar state beach, reception to follow at the conference center itself. This most likely will go until 5 or 6pm. Here is a list of things you should bring for Saturday:
Click here for our tenative schedule We also request that everyone e-mail us with their arrival times, and if they will have a car, and where they will be staying. E-mail to: tamijaneca@yahoo.com Location Monterey/Pacific Grove is located about 2 hours, by car, south of San Francisco, 1 ½ hours south of San Jose.
Travel plans You should have your tickets by now, however.... You want to fly into San Jose if you can. This is often cheaper than flying to San Francisco Airport (SFO), and closer by car to Monterey. Given the time for travel by car, some may want to fly in on Friday night to be here for festivities on Saturday. Additionally, make sure the flight out on Sunday (if you MUST leave) is late enough to make the 1 ½ - 2 hour drive to the airport in time. Conversely, you can leave on Monday morning. |
